Music Theory Placement Test Dates and Guidelines
Music Theory placement tests are given every Fall semester, just before the beginning of classes, and at other times by special arrangement with the Department Chairperson.
For 2007-08, the
test will be given on Monday, Aug. 27, 2:00-3:00 p.m., in Booth 204.
The Music
Theory placement test is designed to determine whether a student should enroll
in Music
151, Theory and Practice of Music I, or Music 101,
Materials of Music. The essential prerequisites for Music 151 are the
ability to read music, and basic knowledge of
music fundamentals.
The placement
test covers basic knowledge of simple rhythms,

Students who
have received a grade of 4 or higher on the Music Theory Advanced Placement
Test are not required to take the Oxy Music Theory placement test, subject to
verification of their AP score by the Oxy Registrar.
